In 1850, James Beckwourth established Beckwourth, CA. Strategically located in the heart of the California gold country. At the time, Beckwourth, CA was the only trading post west of the salt lake where travelers could purchase life-saving supplies. Mr. Beckwourth was one of the first real mountain men of the west, his prowess as a warrior earned him a position as Chief of the Crow Nation(A Native-American Tribe) in the Rocky Mountain territory. A trail was also created in Beckwourth, CA that would allow thousands of settlers access to central California, In hopes of finding gold and creating a better life for their families.
