Chris couldn’t help but have mixed feelings. His father, who has been in the penitentiary since he was 2 years old, will be getting out in a few weeks. Even though there was a small part of him that was happy to finally see his father, the overwhelming feeling he had was anger.
During his childhood, he had it rough. His mother could never seem to get over the fact his father was doing 25 years in prison so she turned to drugs to ease the pain. After several years of battling her drug addiction, she finally died from an apparent overdose. Chris blamed his father for this tragedy.
From his perspective, if his father would have never gone to prison….his mom would still be alive. Throughout the years, his father sent him letters requesting that he come to visit, but he couldn’t do it. He understood that the amount of resentment and disdain he had for his father wasn’t healthy but he couldn’t help how he felt. Maybe now that he was getting out it was time to let bygones be bygones.
What do you think Chris should do about his father?
