A new report is showing that most people in America are against black American getting cash reparations. The research was conducted by gallop and released Monday. Among the 2,543 Americans who were surveyed by phone between June 19th to July 12th of this year.
67% of the individuals that were polled believed a cash payout shouldn’t be issued to those melanated Americans who are descendants of enslaved Africans and adversely affected by the slave trade. However, black Americans are still in favor of receiving cash payouts for reparations.
Out of the 29% of people who were polled that believed cash payouts should be issued, the bulk of them were black. Because of the attention the reparations conversation has garnered over the past year or so many democratic politicians like Corey Booker and Kamala Harris have spoken on the matter.
It’s important to note that even the “The H.R 40 bill” which was designed “to establish a commission to study and consider a national apology and proposal for reparations for the institution of slavery” and is heavily supported by most politicians still doesn’t seem to lean towards giving an actual cash payout.
