A shooting took place in Philadelphia yesterday when police arrived to serve an arrest warrant to a black man named Maurice Hill. He would ultimately wound 6 officers in a standoff that lasted 8 hours. The police say they were serving a narcotics warrant at his house in the northern part of the city when Mr. Hill opened fire.
Around midnight he surrendered and was brought into custody unharmed but needed medical attention for the tear gas that was sprayed in his face.
“It’s nothing short of a miracle we don’t have multiple officers killed today,” Philadelphia Police Commissioner Richard Ross Jr. said Wednesday night.
In a press conference early today ross said the suspect had prior arrests, but his office is not discussing the details of the charges at this time.
President Trump gave his two cents about the situation on Twitter saying the suspect “should have never been allowed to be on the streets”becuase of his”very dangerous criminal record” he went on to say the suspect “looked like he was having a good time after his capture, and after wounding so many police.”
All of the officers who were shot were released from the hospital by Wednesday night.
