A GoFundMe page has been created for Daniel Pantaleo the officer who was recently fired for the killing of Eric Garner. The page organizer Rich Blue Line says they have earned a total of $131,224 so far with a goal of $250.000.
“Support NYC Police Officer Daniel Pantaleo and his family,” the page organizer said in a post.
The organizers of the page also criticized Mayor Bill de Blasio for showing support of the Garner family during his campaign for the 2020 Democratic presidential nominee.
“Mayor de Blasio’s anti-police rhetoric contributed toward the decision to fire him,” the page organizer said. “Let’s help an officer in need who was only doing his job! It’s the least we can do for a brother in blue with a newborn and bills to pay!”
This isn’t the first time people have rallied behind a white man that killed a black person.
Darren Wilson who killed black teenager Mike Brown in 2014 earned close to $1 million in donations while George Zimmerman the white supremacist who killed Trayvon Martin in 2012 collected $200k to help pay for his legal fees.
